Nursery Enrollment in Italy: Documents to Prepare

A guide to documents for nursery enrollment in Italy: application, ISEE, vaccines, ranking, fees, local rules and acceptance.

Nursery Enrollment in Italy: Documents to Prepare

Nursery enrollment in Italy depends heavily on the municipality, type of nursery and yearly call. This guide is a practical outline: before submitting an application, always check the official municipality or provider portal.

The information is updated as of July 4, 2026, but deadlines, scores, fees and required documents can change every year.

Before the Call

Prepare parents' ID and tax code, child's tax code, residence, contacts, SPID/CIE/CNS credentials, ISEE for minors if required and work or family details that affect ranking.

If the baby has not been born yet or is very young, check whether the call accepts unborn children or requires a minimum age at start.

Vaccines and Health

Many calls require declarations or checks linked to vaccination obligations. Do not upload certificates that are not requested: follow municipality or nursery instructions. Still keep the vaccination booklet, pediatrician contact and documents for health needs available.

If your child has allergies, medicines, prematurity or specific needs, ask early which documents are needed for diet, care or settling-in plans.

ISEE and Fees

ISEE may affect ranking, fees or reductions. Check whether ordinary ISEE or ISEE for minors is needed, validity date, thresholds and what happens if you do not submit it. In some cases you can apply without ISEE but pay the maximum fee.

For the INPS nursery bonus, keep receipts and facility documents. It is separate from municipal enrollment.

Ranking and Acceptance

After applying, save the receipt, protocol number and login details. Check provisional ranking, any period for appeals or integrations, final ranking, acceptance deadline and fee payment process.

Missing the acceptance deadline may count as withdrawal. Read carefully what happens if you refuse a place or request a transfer.

Settling In

Before the start, ask about settling-in calendar, requested items, authorizations, pickup delegates, medicines, diet, diapers, photos and communications. Prepare a folder with documents and a question list for the meeting.

Use the family documents checklist to keep everything organized.
